ABOUT EASTSIDE
|
Eastside was started in 2003 on the Eastside of Portland, Oregon. The available assortment of longboards on the market at the time were mostly too long and difficult to get around on. They did not appeal to the terrain of urban streets and hills. Something more versatile was needed for transportation. Portland native and creater Robin McGuirk originally introduced a line of shorter longboards that could go fast with control but also stiffer and more responsive to manuever quickly through the city. This lead to perfecting the concave and tail in order to maximize control and urban mobility. Next came the need for speed as the Racing Scene exploded in 2005. Eastside then introduced, after many modifications, the Eastside DropBoard. It has been refined further into one of the best speedboards on the market today. And it is the official Speedboard for The Eastside Riders. Since then various other downhill freeride models have been introduced along with improvements of the original models.

Each board is hand laminated using thin plys of ecologically harvested hard maple, birch, and bamboo with a specially formulated non-toxic water-proof glue. Maple is used for the Kicktail boards and SpeedBoards for durability and longevity. While birch and bamboo is mixed around a maple core on the freeride and flexy models to acheive spring and a lighter weight. Eastside has designed a unique mold cut by CNC for each of its models. The molds are put into hydraulic presses that laminate each board and press the thin plys of wood and glue into shape. Once the blanks are dry and cured, they are placed onto the CNC machine that has been programmed to cut out the hardline of the shape and drill the truck holes perfectly. Then each cut blank is routed on the edges and sanded down by hand. 3 coats of industrial strength water-borne polyurethane clear coat are applyed in between the paint and silk screening graphics, using a spray gun in the Eastside production shop. Decks are sold separate with choice of griptape or complete with all Made in the USA components including Randal Trucks and Eastside or Abec 11 wheels.
